“Do you take a multivitamin?” I get this question all the time. The answer is both yes, and no.

Did you know that organ meats, such as liver, heart & kidney are the most nutrient dense foods on the planet? Organ meats beat the pants off of every other food out there in terms of their nutrient profile and the bioavailability of those nutrients.

Liver is a nutritional powerhouse! It contains essential nutrients such as vitamins A, D, E, K, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9 (folate) and B12. It also contains minerals: iron, copper, zinc, phosphorous, & selenium.

Heart is an excellent source of CoQ10, which is important for brain & heart health and blood sugar regulation, vitamins A, B9, B12, and the minerals copper, iron, phosphorous, selenium & zinc. It is also rich in the amino acids glycine and proline, which are important for connective tissue, joint, and digestive health.

Kidney is one of the best food sources of selenium, which helps support immune & thyroid function, blood flow, and fertility. It is a great source of the same vitamins and minerals contained in liver, and has antioxidant properties as well.

Here’s the problem: I’ve tried over and over and over again, and I just can’t do it. I can’t hack the flavor or the texture of organ meats! I even tried cutting raw liver into tiny bits, freezing them and swallowing them like tablets. Which worked, but was VERY messy & time consuming.

I know, I know…I’m a big girl and big girls should put on their big girl pants and do things they don’t like to do. I’ll keep trying, but until then I’ve found a solution!

I’ve been taking this Grassfed Organ Complex from Paleovalley, containing liver, heart and kidneys from pasture-raised cows as my multivitamin, and love that I can get all the nutrients of these powerhouse foods without the taste! It’s like, totally a win-win!
