I just finished creating my new vision board, and in my inspiration corner I put not one, but two photos of @ladygaga. The surge of inspiration she ignites in me is difficult to put into words. It’s a visceral reaction.
I’ll admit, when Lady Gaga first came onto the music scene, I didn’t pay a whole lot of attention (And I may have even rolled my eyes a time or two.). Who was this woman with the crazy costumes and dance routines? I honestly didn’t think she’d stick around. But the more I watched her over the years, the more I came to realize that she embodies all the qualities that I admire and respect. She is the true non-fictional Wonder Woman.
Yesterday as I went about my business, I listened to my favorite Lady Gaga songs obsessively on repeat, all the while thinking about what it is about this woman that inspires me so much. First and foremost, Lady Gaga is fiercely and unapologetically authentically herself. She says and does what she damn-well pleases without getting caught up in what “other people” will think. She found her tribe that way, don’t you think? Second, she lives with integrity. She follows her heart, and if something someone wants her to do doesn’t match her values, she doesn’t do it and she’s vocal about it. Third, she is FEARLESS, which means she also allows herself to be VULNERABLE. She is living proof that if you follow your dreams you can be and do anything you set your mind to, even if it doesn’t fall in line with the conventional path of doing things. Finally, she INSPIRES and EMPOWERS her audience of millions worldwide, something I strive to do myself.
Lady Gaga has definitely made the list of “people I must meet before I die”, alongside @oprah, @theellenshow, @marieforleo, @michelleobama and @dallashartwig. All who embody qualities that inspire me to play big in this world and to be the best version of myself.
